The Panoramic Elevators of The Great Arch

In the large opening of The Great Arch is a lift tower, designed as a minimal structure, a speciality of the firm Erik Reitzel.

The lift tower joins the base and the upper plateau of the Arch. It is 90 meters high and is made in pre- stressed stainless steel. About every 21 meters is placed a group of stiffening pillars. Four glass cabins run from the base to the roof in 60 seconds.

The final form of the lift tower was determined during the summer 1983 after the Danish architect J. O. Spreckelsen and the Danish engineer Erik Reitzel had won the international competition March 1983.
